Part-Time Financial Controller Flexible | Approx. 20 hours per week | up to £40k pro-rata depending on hours and experience

KMK Recruitment are working with an established specialist recruitment business looking for an experienced, hands-on Financial Controller to join their small and friendly team on a part-time basis.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced finance professional who enjoys having ownership of the numbers and wants a flexible role that can work around other commitments.

The role is expected to be approximately 20 hours per week although the workload will naturally fluctuate, with busier periods around month-end, invoicing, VAT returns and audits.

The Role You will take responsibility for the day-to-day financial management of the business, ensuring the accounts, cashflow and reporting are accurate, up to date and well managed.

About You We are looking for someone who is confident taking ownership of the finance function within a small business and can work independently without needing significant day-to-day supervision.

Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include: Preparing and issuing approximately 90 sales invoices per month, including self-billing, permanent placements and Euro invoices. Managing invoices through the company’s invoice discounting system. Processing purchase invoices and maintaining accurate records using Sage Line 50. Reconciling the company’s £, $ and € bank accounts and invoice discounting on a regular basis. Maintaining and updating cashflow forecasts and providing visibility to the Directors on the company’s cash position. Preparing payment runs for Director approval. Producing monthly management information, including budgets, MI and cashflow forecasts. Preparing monthly aged debtor and creditor reports. Supporting effective cashflow management and liaising with the Directors as required. Managing the quarterly VAT return process, including preparation, submission and reconciliation. Supporting the preparation of annual statutory accounts and liaising with the external accountant. Working with the Office Manager to track invoices, timesheets and payment packages. Monitoring and chasing outstanding submissions and dealing with any finance-related queries or issues. Carrying out credit control and following up with clients where required. Processing monthly expenses. Preparing the monthly consultant commission run. Supporting the six-monthly audit process and responding to queries from auditors. Managing the invoice discounting reconciliation, monthly reporting and any associated queries. Providing ad hoc financial analysis and support to the Directors as required.
Requirements
You will ideally have: Previous experience as a Financial Controller, ideally within an SME environment. Strong working knowledge of Sage Line 50. Experience with online banking and invoice discounting systems. Excellent Excel and Microsoft Office skills. Strong understanding of cashflow, reconciliations, VAT and management reporting. Good attention to detail and a highly organised approach. The confidence to communicate directly with Directors, accountants, auditors and clients. A proactive, hands-on approach and the ability to identify and resolve issues. The flexibility to adapt your hours around the needs of the business. The ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
